About us

A brief history...

We acquired Thatched Cottage (as it is traditionally known) in 2016 from the late Eileen Turner-Nedelev, who lived here for over 60 years and who made it her mission to develop the land and garden as a haven for wildlife.  There was much for us to do in terms of renovation and rejuvenation and finally in 2021 we opened a  new B&B extension which we named Thatchcombe  (the "combe" being a Saxon word for valley).

Astrid is passionate about gardening, the outdoors, hiking and running, while Tony takes care of practical matters around the property, loves photography, yachting and the outdoors. Astrid is German, Tony is South African and we have lived in England for over 20 years.

We continue to develop the grounds to make them more accessible while still retaining the charm of the little valley with its unique chalk stream, wild areas and woodland.  It's a never-ending project but one that we love and enjoy sharing.  We hope you will enjoy it too.
